• In what was supposed to be a temporary move until a new arena is built, the Pittsburgh Pirates move to Philadelphia to become the Quakers. The arena was never built, and the team folded after playing only one season in Philadelphia.
• The Detroit Cougars are renamed the Falcons.
• Amid protests by Art Ross, the Stanley Cup Final changes from a best-of-three series to a best-of-five affair. The Montreal Canadiens beat the Chicago Black Hawks, three games to two, to win the Cup.
